“Previously recorded by Kent Nagano with the Deutsches Symphonieorchester Berlin, the concert suite Le Petit Prince depicts St. Exupéry’s book in nine musical images. The composer says that he didn’t have an overly movielike style in mind, but that his aim was to illustrate the fairy tale in an evocative and complementary way, as Ravel did in Ma Mère l’Oye. With light, bright orchestration and a soft bass foundation, he succeeded in creating a fairy-tale atmosphere of dreamlike beauty. The soulful playing of Alexandra Conunova, Bryn Lewis and members of the London Symphony Orchestra is top-class, as is the sound quality.”
